Tyler McChurch’s legacy

Tyler Benjamin McChurch is the oldest of 3 sons born to Debbie and Dan McChurch. Tyler died in a single car accident on February 17, 2013. He was just 29 years old. Tyler was a loving husband, brother, father, friend and an outstanding athlete. Tyler lived his life in the same way he played sports: with integrity, determination, and passion. Tyler’s family believes much of his character was developed through skills he gained on the athletic fields and courts and through the leadership of his coaches.

Tyler’s Football history

Tyler’s coach at Friendship Christian School, John McNeal stated, “We put our offense on his back. As he went . . . We went. He was the kind of kid I loved coaching. Going into games, I never worried about Tyler. I knew I was going to get his best every night.” In 1990, Tyler began playing Pee Wee football and played competitive football until he graduated from Cumberland University in 2007. Tyler’s brothers, Mitchell and Connor were also very active and achieved many honors associated with playing football. Tyler’s coach at Cumberland University believes, “He and his brothers could have played in the 1950s or 1960s. They were old-school – football players.” The McChurch brothers football era in Wilson County started in 1994 and ended in 2012.
